Week #5
Now that I’ve been here for a month, it is time for me to start taking on additional responsibilities. At my last place of employment, I managed a monthly newsletter where I got to select relevant content for the education industry. I really enjoyed owning that piece and want to continue doing so here at Quest Diagnostics. This week, I went back and reviewed several editions of our newsletter from the past five years. Outlined below are a couple of our most popular articles, which I thought would be worth sharing.
Thwarting Drug Test Cheaters
Employers who drug test their applicants and employees depend on the results of these tests to help ensure safer, more productive, drug free workplaces. With this in mind, employers must do everything possible to prevent drug-abusing workers and job applicants from successfully altering test results and thus undermining the benefits of their drug testing program. This article lays out the arsenal of options that can help employers to thwart the efforts of drug test cheaters.
Marijuana Legislation
Presidential and state representatives weren’t the only things on the ballot last fall. In Colorado, Washington, Massachusetts, Oregon and Arkansas the issue of ‘marijuana legalization’ was also opened up to state voters. Colorado and Washington passed measures to legalize marijuana use by adults. Due to the conflicts within the Controlled Substance Abuse Act, we expect more developments in the future.
Our monthly newsletter contains other great information such as invitations to webinars and articles relevant to the drug testing industry. If you are new to the drug testing industry, like myself, or if you would like to stay up to date on industry news, I encourage you to subscribe to our monthly newsletter, Results.

As a new employee at Quest Diagnostics, there’s hardly a day that goes by that I don’t learn something new about the world of drug testing. Like some of you, I have a lot to learn about the industry. During my first year of employment, I’m going to write this weekly column highlighting drug testing procedures, products and processes as I discover them. To learn more about my journey, you can read my introductory post.
